How do you solve an extinction mystery? Put a tiny computer on a snail.

David Blaauw’s lab deployed the Michigan Micro Mote, the world’s smallest computer, to help zoologists better understand how P. hyalina snails survived the rosy wolf snail in Tahiti. Blaauw is the Kensall D. Wise Collegiate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Developing computer chips

Blaauw also gave a TV interview where he explained how U-M researchers are working with electronics companies and automakers to help chip makers produce more efficiently while also enabling automakers use fewer chips in their products.
