Join the U-M Formula SAE team as they test their newest electric race car.
In May 2025, the University of Michigan’s premier Formula SAE team tested its newest electric race car, MR25. Conducted in a North Campus parking lot, the tests kicked off a standout season of performance and innovation.
With a custom carbon fiber chassis, a 600 volt battery pack and an all-wheel-drive motor system, MR25 is built for one thing: winning.
The team’s journey into electric began in 2022, when MRacing merged with Michigan Electric Racing to fully embrace the future of automotive engineering. Their debut EV, MR22, made an instant impact, clinching 2nd Overall in the SAE Electric competition at Michigan International Speedway and solidifying MRacing as one of the top U.S. teams.
The momentum continued with MR23, which featured a revolutionary outboard drivetrain and fully independent four-wheel power delivery. That innovation paid off big at the 2023 Pittsburgh Shootout, where MR23 won every event and took 1st Overall.
Fresh off a standout 2024 performance at Formula SAE Michigan—claiming 3rd in Design and taking home the Garrett Powertrain Innovation Award—MRacing entered the 2025 season with renewed ambition and next-generation technology.
By September, the team was already halfway through their competition season, having secured 3rd place in Acceleration at the Formula SAE Electric competition at Michigan International Speedway, as well as 3rd place in Autocross, Acceleration, and Skidpad at the Pittsburgh Shootout. They now head into the final two events of the season with momentum on their side.
Fueled by teamwork, creativity, and relentless testing, MRacing is charging into the future with one goal: to out-engineer the competition.
