Key highlights from the 2024 IE3 conference

Not one, but two transformative conferences in 2024

Michigan Engineering hosted the Big10+ Inclusive Excellence in Engineering Education (IE³) conference in September, following on the heels of the inaugural summit of HBCU Engineering Deans in June.

The 2024 IE³ Conference at the University of Michigan opened with a panel with a special focus on how institutions can bridge technical excellence with a commitment to equity.  Previous conferences were held at Penn State and Georgia Tech.

Key Highlights

  • There were a total of 13 events and sessions over three days. Many of them featured a broad range of knowledge experts, for example, the Office of General Counsel contributed legal expertise to the dynamic discussions surrounding equity and inclusion in education.
  • The sessions were designed to be actionable, addressing issues such as: How can faculty align proposals with federal funding agencies’ evolving expectations around broader societal impacts?
  • The conference also included opportunities for networking and exploration, including a walking tour of Michigan Engineering’s facilities on North Campus and an evening dinner to celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching in Engineering (CRLT-Engin)

Upcoming Conference: IE32025

We are excited to announce the upcoming conference in North Carolina A&T State University on October 5-7 in Greensboro, NC.

The 2024 IE3 Conference was hosted on September 30, 2024 at University of Michigan’s Rackham Graduate School.
