Watching (Smart) Grass Grow

A photograph of researchers watching a wind tunnel full of smart grass made out of smart materials collect energy.

Jared Hobeck, AERO Research Fellow, and Daniel Inman, Clarence L (Kelly) Johnson Collegiate Professor of Aerospace Engineering and Department Chair, run a test on an energy harvesting device their research group has designed in the FXB Building on March 21, 2017 The device harvests energy by coupling smart materials with vibrating systems to effectively harvest vibrational energy, and will be used in a variety of airflow and fluid systems.
