Focusing on Breast Cancer

A photograph of EECS Researcher Moussa N’Gom demonstrating use of a laser to focus light through a platelet of yogurt.

Moussa N'Gom, EECS Assistant Research Scientist, demonstrates the use of a laser to focus light through a platelet of yogurt in the ERB-I on North Campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI on June 15, 2017.

The yogurt is used to exemplify a disorganized material of which the laser is able to focus light through. N'Gom's end goal is to have the system to be able to image internal human tissues through the skin to make procedures such as breast cancer mammograms less stressful and painful for patients.
