Colored Solar Cells

A photograph of a research examining a solar cell.

Jae Yong Lee, Electrical Engineering PhD Student, examines a colored solar cell in the EECS Building. The solar cells are able to be colored for the first time by EECS Professor L. Jay Guo’s research group by using a special light absorbing semiconductor and placing it on top of a metal. Guo hopes that this will enable solar cells to be used in a larger variety of applications and not just on top of roofs or as stand alone solar panels.
