Ralph T. Yang, Dwight F. Benton Professor of Chemical Engineering, has been elected to the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) as a Foreign Member. Membership in the academy is the highest honor engineers in China can receive. Yang was elected for his life-long contributions to chemical and environmental engineering. According to the December 7 announcement made by the academy, 70 new Chinese members and 8 new foreign members were elected, representing all engineering disciplines as well as medicine and agriculture.  The new members bring the totals in the CAE to 852 Chinese members and 49 foreign members.

Yang is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the Academia Sinica in Taiwan and he received a Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award in 2007 from the University of Michigan for excellence in research and teaching.

The CAE announcement was made in Chinese with only the foreign members’ names and affiliations in English.
