Awards Announced at ASCE-CEEFA Banquet

ASCE and CEEFA held a banquet honoring students, faculty and staff for their service to the department over the past year. | Short Read

At the event, awards were given from ASCE to the Professor of the Year, Jason McCormick; Staff Member of the Year, Matt Blank; and GSI (Graduate Student Instructor) of the Year, M. Chase Dwelle.

CEEFA announced the recipient of the CEEFA Faculty Award, which was presented to Associate Professor SangHyun Lee.

The Steel Bridge, Concrete Canoe and GeoWall teams gave presentations.

The electrons absorb laser light and set up “momentum combs” (the hills) spanning the energy valleys within the material (the red line). When the electrons have an energy allowed by the quantum mechanical structure of the material—and also touch the edge of the valley—they emit light. This is why some teeth of the combs are bright and some are dark. Mapping quantum structures with light to unlock their capabilities
