Thanks to the enthusiasm of some dedicated students, two new student organizations joined our AIChE student chapter, honor society Omega Chi Epsilon, ChE car team, and Chemical Engineering Graduate Society this past year.

Students Mark Adamaszek, Eric Giuffrida and Jake Fratkin, in the photo to the right, led the formation of FISA, the Food Industry Student Association, in winter term. Over 30 students attended their first mass meeting, on a very snowy March evening. At other sessions, students shared their internship experiences and took a plant tour at the nearby Jiffy Mix plant. Many companies are eager to get on their fall schedule already, and the group is looking forward to their future activities. The officers mentioned above can be contacted at fisa.officers@umich.edu.

Davin Rautiola, who will be a student in the pharmaceutical engineering masters program this fall, led the effort to revitalize our student chapter of ISPE, the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers, with support from Professor Henry Wang. They had a very active lecture series winter term, with speakers from the FDA, JHP Pharmaceuticals, Perrigo, AbbVie, Ash Stevens, and Georgia Tech, among others. New president, Arvind Narayan, and the new officers, can be reached at ISPE.officers@umich.edu.

We appreciate the time these students have put into providing additional opportunities and resources for all our students, and the support they have received from alumni and industry representatives. We encourage you to get in touch with all our organizations, as they love to hear from alumni!

Attendees at the inaugural meeting for the ISPE 2014 Winter Term Lecture Series: Kayla Young, Tiffany Hackett, Sarah Kistler, Vasudha Murlidhar, Omer Aydin, Laren Lofchy, Alan Ruan, My Nguyen, Zachary Klaver, Arvind Narayan, Vivek Vijayakumar, Kaitlyn Fravel, Joshua Nosal, Kellisa Hansen, Prasanna Parasurama, Ulka Dandekar, Dr. Norm Howe (guest speaker), Rachel Zhou, Zach Weinberg.
